How many hybrids should you use?

Here’s a question for you, which clubs do you take with you when you’re headed into a ‘3 clubs and a putter’ competition? These tournaments are a lot of fun and a real eye-opener into how creative you can get with your shots when you’re restricted to using specific clubs.

You’ll likely want to take a driver and a wedge with you, but how do you manage that middle ground? Do you go for an iron, a fairway wood, or would you feel safer with a hybrid?
People often come away from these competitions having played surprisingly well, and it can make you wonder whether you need to be carrying a whole range of irons around with you when hybrids are so adaptable.
Irons will give you better accuracy, and fairway woods pack some power, but hybrids bridge the gap between both clubs. So today, we want to get you to consider how you organise your bag, as well as marvel at how amazing the latest golf hybrids are.
The world of golf hybrids
From what we’ve observed at the club in recent years, a lot more players are adding hybrid clubs to their bags. Hybrids have been around for decades, but it seems in modern times they’ve becomes just as popular as long irons, particularly among high handicap players.

It is of course all about personal preference so we want to understand your attitude towards them. Do you enjoy the feel of a hybrid over a long iron? Do you find the heavier head and larger sole makes them easier to strike than long irons?
It’s important to have a good understanding of your gapping and your distances, knowing exactly how far you hit each club so you know which one to pull out of the bag on any given shot.
So how do you accommodate your hybrids into your set? Do you have just the one 4 hybrid and a set of irons, or do you have more hybrids than irons? Perhaps you have 4, 5, 6 hybrids and your irons are more thought of as your scoring clubs? Perhaps you’re very skilled and comfortable with your long irons and prefer a hybrid as more of a tactical tool?
When you visit us for a custom fitting, we’ll take a look at your game and walk you through all your options when it comes to long irons and hybrids. The very latest hybrid offerings from Mizuno are sleek, they feel great in your hands, and expertly bridge the gap between your fairway woods and your scoring irons.
The latest Mizuno golf hybrids
Mizuno are one of the best brands in golf, and their latest clubs are excellent from grip to sole. The latest JPX One hybrid will help you get out of plenty of scrapes and are a joy to play with whether you’re using one off the tee or need to get some club on your ball playing from the rough.

Mizuno’s fantastic JPX One hybrid has been modelled on their JPX One fairway woods, resulting in a more compact club that still packs a punch. A CORTECH Chamber sits behind the head to help you reach long distances, and the Speed Bevel sole design helps you punch through turf, so you’ll be able to get a good club on the ball even if you don’t have the best lie. The Waffle Crown structure makes this club feel very stable all round, and we don’t doubt you’ll have a great time playing with it.
If you prefer lining your bag with long irons, the Pro Fli-Hi is an excellent choice. This club features a hollow body construction that provides an exceptional sense of feel on all strikes, and an increased bounce angle improves turf interaction. Mizuno has placed 26 grams of tungsten low in the head to improve launch, and the face features an offset weld line that improved face flexion to give you faster ball speeds. If you’re a skilled golfer, you’ll be shaping your shots just how you’d like with this iron.
